NORTHLAND SPORTS AWARDS
Following the Government announcement this week banning large gatherings and events, Sport Northland has made the decision to cancel the 2019 Conbrio Northland Sports Awards, which were due to be held in McKay Stadium, Whangarei on Friday 3 April.
The Conbrio Northland Sports Awards are the region’s premier sports awards, celebrating the success of Northland athletes, coaches, officials and sports leaders. They have been organised annually by Sport Northland since 1987, and while an awards function will not be held this year, Sport Northland and major sponsor Conbrio are exploring options to recognise and celebrate the category winners in alternative ways.
Sport Northland Chief Executive Brent Eastwood says in the end it was a reasonably straight forward decision for his organisation to make. “ The government’s announcement on Monday reinforced our prior thinking around the event. It is obviously unfortunate for the 2019 winners that they will not be presented with their awards at a function, but we will work with Conbrio to undertake the most appropriate recognition of these most deserving individuals and teams. It will still be a celebration of the best sportspeople in Northland”.
Geoff Henry, Managing Director of Conbrio Technology Group is fully supportive of Sport Northland’s decision. “ We appreciate the call Sport Northland has made with cancelling the awards function and look forward to still acknowledging the feats of Northland’s best sportspeople in 2019 through other formats”.
We thank you for your understanding at this time.
Sport Northland is delighted to celebrate the Te Taitokerau sporting community.
The success of our athletes can only be attributed to the fantastic support system of coaches, parents, teachers, community volunteers and administrators.
On this night, we celebrate with all of you.
