NORTHLAND SPORTS AWARDS
These awards, which have been organised by Sport Northland since 1987, recognise, acknowledge and celebrate Northland’s very best sportspeople, as well as the coaches, officials, administrators and other volunteers that make sport happen across our wonderful and unique region.
As everyone will know, the scheduling of the awards this year has been caught up in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, and as such Sport Northland had no option but to cancel the awards function on 3 April. Subsequent to this, the team at Sport Northland got a little creative and as a result will be scheduling a virtual awards on the same night. Each individual award was announced on the Sport Northland Facebook page through scheduled posts on 3 April 2020.
Sport Northland has a long-term vision of seeing ‘all Northlanders leading better lives through involvement in play, active recreation and sport’. While this is definitely a lofty vision that may be slightly out-of-reach (like a good vision should be), it attempts to get across to Northlanders that involvement in play, active recreation and sport will enrich their own life in ways that they might not
The life lessons that playing sport teaches our young people are many and varied, and the satisfaction and meaning that comes from volunteering to make sport happen is something only understood by those that do. At Sport Northland, we are
attempting to get more people feeling this way. We hope by identifying, celebrating and promoting the very best Northlanders in sport across the various categories featured, that more people will put their hand up to somehow become involved in active recreation and sport.
Congratulations to all the finalists and to the winners well done on a fantastic year that has once again contributed to the on-going legacy of Northland sport.
Sport Northland is delighted to celebrate the Te Taitokerau sporting community.
The success of our athletes can only be attributed to the fantastic support system of coaches, parents, teachers, community volunteers and administrators.
On this night, we celebrate with all of you.
