WRAPPING UP LAST YEAR:

BRENT EASTWOOD

SPORT NORTHLAND CHIEF EXECUTIVE

“Another wonderful celebration of Northland sport took place with the 2017 Conbrio Northland Sports Awards, at the ASB Stadium Whangarei. Close to 400 people witnessed the continuation and elevation of the champions (since 1987) through the various awards presented on the evening.

The top award (The Conbrio Supreme Award) was taken out once again by Blair Tuke (sailing) from Kerikeri, who also had the honour of again being named Male Sportsperson of the Year. The honour of Female Sportswoman of the Year was claimed by Stacey Michelsen (hockey).

This year’s Northern Advocate People’s Choice Award was extremely popular, with the winner Ady McKenzie taking home the award for her participation in running at the World Masters Games in Auckland in 2017.

All in all, another great celebration of Northland sport – we certainly look forward to more fantastic performances from our home grown sportspeople!"
