DEADLINES, TIME FRAMES and NOMINATIONS

  1. Nominations close 18 NOVEMBER 2018

  2. The qualifying period for all categories (except for the Brian Maunsell Memorial Service to Sport Award) is 1 October 2017 to 31 October 2018. Please list the achievements that have occurred in this period only.

  3. The official online nomination form must be used. 

  4. The nominator must agree that all information is correct. 

SPORTS AWARDS ENTRY ELIGIBILITY, TERMS and CONDITIONS 

  1. Individuals nominated for sports performance will be recognized within their own code in the code awards, and will also be eligible for the Northland Sportsman, Sportswoman and Junior Sportsperson of the Year Award (if aged under 21) and the overall Supreme Award.

  2. Nominees must be affiliated to a sports club within Northland and identify as a member of the Northland community. Where the option is available, they must also have chosen to represent Northland in competition.

  3. Nominees for open categories will be judged on senior achievements and should be aged 16 years of age or older during the year of performance (except in exceptional cases).

  4. Nominees for the Junior Sportsperson of the Year Award (Garry Frew Memorial Award) must be under 21 years of age at the time of performance. 

  5. Nominations must be received from regional sports organisations (RSO’s) or national sports organisations (if there is no RSO in Northland). Sport Northland reserves the right to nominate suitable candidates if not already nominated.

  6. The information presented on the nomination form must be clear and concise; it is used by the judges to make an informed decision. Please ensure that you include all relevant details about performances.

  7. RSO’s are asked to forward 3 male (1 winner, 2 finalists) and 3 female (1 winner, 2 finalists) nominations for their code awards and nominations, where appropriate, in any other categories. The nomination must be received on the official form and be ranked in order of achievement. Sport Northland reserves the right to make the final decision on all code winners.

  8. By submitting a nomination you are consenting to Sport Northland using the details for the purpose of administrating the Conbrio Northland Sports Awards 2018 and acknowledging your rights to access and correct that information in accordance with Privacy Act, 1993.

AWARD SPECIFICS

  1. ASB Male Code - Awarded to the individual who has reached the highest level of achievement within their sport in open competition over the past 12 months.

  2. ASB Female Code - Awarded to the individual who has reached the highest level of achievement within their sport in open competition over the past 12 months.

  3. Brian Maunsell Service to Sport - This award recognises volunteer service, achievement and contribution to sport throughout the nominee’s sporting life - both within and outside of Northland.  The nominee must have made a significant contribution to Northland sport. The emphasis for this award will be on both the length and level of contribution of volunteer service to sport. (Note: Suggested minimum length of contribution for nominees is 20 years). Previous winners are not eligible for re-nomination for the same achievements.

  4. Leadership Award - Awarded for the most outstanding achievements/results by a sport leader in relation to their sport and/or the sport sector over the past 12 months - 1 October 2017 to 31 October 2018 (Sport leaders are considered as board members, committee members, paid or voluntary staff. This does not include coaches or officials and is not a service award i.e. achievements must have been in the last 12 months).

  5. Team of the Year - Awarded for the most outstanding performance/highest achievement by an Open team (over 21) over the past 12 months. All team members are to be affiliated to a Northland Club. 

  6. Junior Team of the Year - Awarded for the highest achievement by a team (under 21) over the past 12 months. All team members are to be affiliated to a Northland Club.

  7. Coach of the Year - Awarded for the highest achievement by a coach over the past 12 months.

  8. Official of the Year Award - Awarded to the referee / umpire / judge that has officiated at the highest level over the past 12 months. 

  9. Masters Sportsperson of the Year - Awarded for the highest achievement by a sportsperson in Masters/Veterans age group competition. Persons nominated in this category may not be nominated for code awards for the same achievement(s). 

  10. Disabled Sportsperson of the Year - Awarded to the Para athlete who has reached the highest level of achievement within their sport in open competition over the past 12 months (Para sport refers to all sport for athletes with an eligible impairment, whether they feature on the Paralympic Games programme or not).

  11. Junior Sportsperson of the Year - Awarded for the highest achievement by a sportsperson under the age of 21 at the time of performance. Persons nominated in this category can be nominated for code awards but only for their open achievements. 

  12. Community Impact Award – Award is based on collaborative community projects which have a positive impact in and on the community and community sport. Community Impact Award winners from the Kaipara Sports Awards, Far North Sports Awards and Whangarei District will be considered for the Northland Community Impact Award of the Year at the Conbrio Northland Sports Awards.  

  13. Homegrown Sportsperson of the year Award, for Northlanders Living out of the Region – (This award is yet to be named) Awarded to the person from Northland that lives outside the Northland region who has reached the highest level of achievement within their sport in open competition over the last 12 months that meets at least 2 of the 3 following criteria:
    •    Born in Northland 
    •    Attended a majority of their schooling in Northland
    •    Represented Northland at some stage/level of their Sport
    This person is not eligible for Sportswoman, Sportsman or the Supreme Award.
